WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from from the police departments of Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka as a record of police activity, incidents reported to the police and those they arrest. Someone intercepted checks that had been mailed out by a resident in the 800 block of Sheridan Road, altered them, and cashed them, police were told on the afternoon of Nov. 17.
ATTEMPTED CAR BURGLARY

Someone rummaged through unlocked cars in the 400 block of Dundee Road around 12:52 a.m. on Nov. 18 and rummaged through their center consoles, but nothing was reported stolen.
FORGERY
Someone got a hold of a check that had been written to one person, changed the name and cashed it, a resident in the 600 block of Greenwood Avenue told police on the morning of Nov. 21.
CITATIONS
A 24-year-old Chicago man was ticketed for cannabis possession Nov. 14 near the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Dundee Road.
A 22-year-old Evanston man and a 35-year-old Highland Park man were both ticketed for having a small amount of marijuana near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Hawthorn Avenue Nov. 14 at 10:05 p.m.
A 25-year-old Chicago man was ticketed for marijuana possession in the 800 block of Sheridan Road Nov. 17 at 9:18 p.m.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
CAR BURGLARY
A Land Rover and a Porsche were reported burglarized in the 400 Block of Sunset Ridge Road in Northfield sometime during the overnight hours of Nov. 15-16. Detectives are investigating.
ARRESTS
Bilen Berhane, 27, of the 5000 block of Marine Drive in Chicago, turned himself in Nov. 16 at 11:28 a.m. at the Northfield Police Department and was charged with identity theft in connection with an incident reported to police July 13.
A 44-year-old Wheeling man was arrested Nov. 17 at 4:05 p.m. and charged with driving an uninsured vehicle with expired registration on a suspended license after police pulled over a vehicle he was driving near Willow and Waukegan roads.
A 37-year-old Brentwood, Tennessee man was arrested Nov. 19 at 7:35 a.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license after police said they pulled him over for driving 55 mph in a 30 mph zone around Wagner and Willow roads.
A 44-year-old Northfield man was pulled near the intersection of for not having a working back license plate and arrested after police determined he was driving on a suspended license.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
STORAGE UNIT BREAK-IN
On the night of Nov. 12, a resident in the 500 block of Chestnut Street discovered that someone had broken the padlocks to a pair of storage units in a basement sometime between Oct. 12 and that night. There was no immediate report of anything being stolen.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a key fob and a cell phone charger valued at $120 from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 800 block of Lamson Drive between 2:40 and 3 a.m. on Nov. 13.
HOME BURGLARY/STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a key fob out of an unlocked car in a driveway in the 1300 block of Hackberry Lane and used it to steal another car that had been kept in the garage during the overnight hours of Nov. 12-13. The reported loss was more than $5,000.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a backpack with an iPad Pro and sunglasses out of an unlocked car in the 1300 block of Hackberry Lane during the overnight hours of Nov. 12-13. An empty backpack was later located in the area, police said. The reported loss was more than $1,000.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone took a backpack from an unlocked car in the 700 block of Foxdale Avenue during the overnight hours of Nov. 12-13. The bag had figure skates, various pieces of sports gear and tools, which were all later found in the area.
THEFT
Someone reportedly stole copper piping worth $650 from an unlocked basement in the 500 block of Chestnut Street between Nov. 12 and Nov. 14.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone reportedly entered two unlocked cars in a driveway in the 800 block of Boal Parkway on Nov. 16 around 3:05 a.m. and stole $4 in change from a center console.
IDENTITY THEFT
On the afternoon of Nov. 16, a Winnetka resident discovered someone tried to make a fraudulent wire transfer after accessing their bank account. An unauthorized purchase of $95.61 was also made using the resident's checking account.
ARRESTS
Jose Torres-Gutierez, 38, of the 600 block of Dunham Road, Gurnee, was arrested Nov. 15 at 3:05 p.m. at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with violating an order of protection. The arrest was made after an investigation in which police received a reported a court order had been violated.
Jonathan D. Karareko, 25, of the 9600 block of West Fullerton Avenue in Melrose Park, was arrested Nov. 16 at 5:18 p.m. in the 300 block of Elder Lane and charged with domestic batter after police received a 911 call about a battery in progress.
