Printed Message Warns Of Scam; Shoplifters Snatch Drugs: Blotters
Shoppers involved in parking lot altercation, Crystal Lake woman, Waukegan and Wilmette men charged with DUI: New Trier Area Blotters
The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole an Infiniti from the 1100 block of Mayfair Lane that had been left unlocked with its keys inside around 4 a.m. on March 11. Police reported the car was found abandoned several towns away.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone broke the door, toilet paper holder and soap dispenser in the outhouse on the 12th Green at Glencoe Golf Club in the 600 block of Westley Road at some point prior to 2 p.m. on March 20.

THEFT
A resident in the 400 block of Woodlawn Avenue reported around 11:15 a.m. on March 23 that someone stole a snow shovel worth $30 from the side of their house.

- A Sheridan Road resident reported on the morning of March 13 that someone had used their identity to open a Sprint account and accrue $900 in charges. The resident told police they learned their identity had been stolen after they were contacted by a collections agency.
- A Vernon Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of March 18 that someone unsuccessfully attempted to use their credit card information.
- A Woodlawn Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of March 21 someone twice used their identity to unsuccessfully attempt to open up lines of credit at Target.
- An Elm Place resident reported in the early morning of March 23 that someone used their identity to open up an a PayPal credit account and accrue up to $3,200 in charges. The company later reversed the charges.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 20-year-old Libertyville man was arrested around 2 p.m. on March 14 near Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway and charged with aggravated speeding.
Jose A. Garcia-Guevara, 32, of the 300 block of North Green Bay Road, Waukegan, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on March 16 near the intersection of Dundee Road and Skokie Ridge Drive and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, obstructing identification and driving with a suspended license. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver and improper turning.

NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE
An Enid Lane resident came to the station on March 9 to report a suspicious car had been outside his home around 1 a.m. on March 2. Officers determined the vehicle belonged to an acquaintance of the resident's adult child who had been invited to the house to drop off an item.
ANIMAL COMPLAINT
A Dickens Road resident came into the station on March 13 to reported that their dog was attacked by several other dogs while walking their dog in the 100 block of Dickens Road. Police contacted the owner of the other dogs and explained the village's ordinances regarding control of animals.
ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A Bosworth Lane resident came into the station on March 14 to report they had been getting unwanted text messages from an unknown sender.
ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE
Police were called to the parking lot of the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, around 2 p.m. on March 16 by a customer who reported their car had been damaged, possibly by a shopping cart.
NEIGHBOR DISPUTE
A resident of the 200 block of Wagner Road reported around 10:30 a.m. on March 17 that a neighbor was leaving unwanted items along their shared property line and was bothering contractors working at the home.
DEA SCAM ATTEMPT
A Steeple Chase Lane resident reported around 12:15 p.m. on March 17 that someone claiming to be a DEA agent had called them and asked for various pieces of personal information before the resident hung up.
SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A resident in the 300 block of Sunset Ridge Road reported around 11:30 a.m. on March 18 that a suspicious man was at his home. Officers spoke to the man, who said he believed an acquaintance of his wife lived at the home. Police determined the person he was seeking was not a Northfield resident.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Police were called to the Mariano's parking lot at 1822 Willow Road for a dispute between two customers. One threw a set of car keys at the other person's car, causing damage. Police reported the key-thrower agreed to pay for the cost of the damage and the vehicle owner decided against pressing charges.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Zachary D. Wadleigh, 28, of the 1700 block of Harding Road, Northfield, was arrested around 6:15 p.m. on March 9 at his home on an active Cook County arrest warrant for violation of probation after police were called for an unrelated matter.
A 40-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 12:30 p.m. on March 10 near the intersection of Bristol Street and Willow Road and charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for operating a vehicle while using an electronic device.
An 18-year-old Northbrook man was arrested around 4:15 p.m. on March 12 and charged with speeding 25 mph or more above the posted limit after driving 60 mph in a 30 mph zone in the area of North Happ Road and Astor Place.
Matthew J. Wood, 18, of the 300 block of South Happ Road, Northfield, was arrested at his home around 6:15 p.m. on March 20 and charged with domestic battery following an altercation with another resident.
WILMETTE
INCIDENTS
SCAM ATTEMPT
A 10th Street resident reported discovering on March 9 a printed piece of paper in his printer with a message indicating his files had been corrupted and demanding money to recover the data. The resident reported the incident to the police before complying with the scam.
SHOPLIFTING
- Employees at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., reported that two unidentified male shoplifters stole unspecified merchandise at 5:23 p.m. on March 9 and were last seen leaving in a dark-colored two-door vehicle.
- Walgreens staff reported a man in his 40s and a man in his 20s stole an unspecified amount of over-the-counter drugs around 6:15 p.m. on March 12. They were last seen leaving in a black car with tinted windows.
CAR BURGLARIES
- Someone left items that had been stolen from a car into the garbage can of a skilled care facility in the 400 block of Poplar Drive between 10:45 p.m. on March 13 and 7:10 a.m. on March 14.
- Two resident in the 200 block of Dupee Place reported that someone rummaged through their unlocked cars between 4:30 p.m. March 13 and 1:10 p.m. March 14. Nothing was reported stolen.
- A resident in the 100 block of Maple Avenue reported that he witnessed a male burglar in his vehicle between 9:10 and 9:19 p.m. on March 18. The only thing stolen was change and the burglar fled before an officer arrived.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 42-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 2 a.m. on March 10 in the 3800 block of Lake Avenue and charged with driving with a suspended license. She was also cited for no valid registration and no proof of insurance.
A 53-year-old Wilmette woman was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on March 12 in the 900 block of Lake Avenue and charged with driving with a license suspended following a previous DUI arrest.
Gregory Fishman, 29, of the 1800 block of North Winnebago Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on an active Will County warrant for failing to appear in court in connection with a suspended driver's license citation.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Scott Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of March 12 that someone used their identity to contact Capital One regarding an unauthorized credit card on their existing account. Unsuccessful attempts were also made to obtain credit cards from Gap and Menards.
- An Auburn Avenue resident reported that someone used their identity to open an unauthorized AT&T account and buy two iPhones between Nov. 1 and March 18.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An employee at the McDonald's, 858 Green Bay Road, reported that someone damaged the glass on the self-service kiosk between 6 and 8 p.m. on March 13.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 26-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 8:45 p.m. on March 9 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 600 block of Green Bay Road. He wa also issued citations for an operating an uninsured motor vehicle and disobeying a stop sign.
Jeremy Zeman, 45, of the 600 block of Green Bay Road, Wilmette, was arrested around 1:45 a.m. on March 11 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and excessive speeding following a traffic stop in the 100 block of Green Bay road. He was also issued citations for disobeying a stop sign and improper lane usage.
A 29-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on March 11 and charged with driving without a valid driver's license following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Oak Street. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and not having a rear license plate light.
Timothy A. Mullis, 49, of the 5700 block of Rose Court, Berkeley, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. on March 13 in the 700 block of Kearsage Avenue in Elmhurst. He was arrested following a previously reported theft.
Katarina J. Melendez, 22, of the 9500 block of Butternut Drive, Crystal Lake, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on March 15 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more following a traffic stop in the first block of Green Bay Road. She was also issued citation for speeding and improper lane usage.
A 39-year-old Skokie man was arrested around 5:45 p.m. on March 15 in the 1300 block of Willow Road and charged with excessive speeding.
Victor Bermudez, 34, of the 1400 block of West Byron Street, Chicago, was arrested on an in-state warrant and issued a citation for driving with one headlight following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Green Bay Road.
David W. Baird Jr., 35, of the 800 block of Dunlop Avenue, Forest Park, was arrested around 10:45 p.m. on March 19 and charged with fleeing and eluding police following a traffic stop at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Linden Street. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol, improper lane usage and disobeying a traffic signal.
