NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A Lincoln Avenue resident reported on Jan. 13 that someone had used their identity to open a bank account without permission.

THEFT
A resident in the 400 block of Greenleaf Avenue reported on Jan. 17 that a necklace, two Apple watches and six other watches had gone missing from their home. There was no sign of forced entry, and the resident said the jewelry may have gone missing between Dec. 27 and Dec. 30.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT
Someone stole a catalytic converter from a car parked in the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue at some point between 5 and 10 a.m. on Jan. 18.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 700 block of Vernon Avenue reported on Jan. 18 that someone had cut the wires of their decorative outdoor string lights, causing an unknown amount of damage.

INCIDENTS

CHECK FRAUD
A Cumnor Road resident reported on Jan. 10 that someone had forged a personal check in December 2021 and cashed it for a $2,700 loss.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Earlston Road resident reported on Jan. 4 that someone had attempted to open several unauthorized lines of credit using their identity.
  • A Kenilworth Avenue resident reported on Jan. 10 that someone had used their identity to fraudulently apply for a Capital One debit card.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

TELEPHONE HARASSMENT
An employee of an unspecified business in the 300 block of South Happ Road reported on Jan. 10 that they had gotten numerous harassing and non-threatening phone calls from a male caller.

SHOPLIFTING
A female shoplifter was banned from the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, on the afternoon of Jan. 12 after store staff called police to report that she had just stolen a bottle of alcohol. Officers stopped her nearby and retrieved the stolen bottle of alcohol. Management of the grocery store told police they did not want to press charges but did not want her to ever return.

DISPUTE
Police were called to the area of Pleasantview Lane and Old Willow Road around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 for a report that a man had walked up to a car and yelled obscenities in an argument about dropping people off on private property.

INCIDENTS

EMAIL SCAM
A Hibbard Road resident reported on Jan. 7 that they had been tricked into buying an electronic Amazon gift card and sending its code to their friend's email address before learning that the friend had been hacked and the email had been sent by a scammer.

SHOPLIFTING
A regular patron of the CVS Pharmacy at 1515 Sheridan Road reached behind the pharmacy counter and stole a bottle of medications at 10:20 a.m. on Jan. 11.

SCOOTER THEFT
A resident in the 1400 block of Isabella Street reported on Jan. 11 that someone had stolen an electric scooter that had been left near a garage.

HOME BURGLARY
One or more burglars broke into a house in the 800 block of Laramie Avenue through the front door between 5:40 and 8 p.m. on Jan. 12. A neighbor told police that a white box truck had been parked in front of the home during the time of the burglary. It was not known at the time of the report what had been stolen.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
Around 2 a.m. on Jan. 14, burglar alarms at Wilmette Food Mart, 531 Green Bay Road, and the BP Amoco gas station, 901 Green Bay Road, alerted police to two smash-and-grab burglaries. Video surveillance from the food mark showed four people dressed in hoodies and black pants use a pry bar to break the glass and steal an ATM from inside. Video surveillance at the gas station showed the burglars try unsuccessfully to steal an ATM. Read more »

STOLEN CAR
Police said two men stole a 2010 black VW sedan at Plaza Del Lago after meeting a resident there who had listed it for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The resident described the thieves' car as a green sedan.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFTS

  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a car parked in the 300 block of Skokie Boulevard on or before Jan. 7.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a car parked in the 300 block of Ridge Road on or before Jan. 7.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone burglarized an unlocked car in the 1600 block of Wilmette Avenue on or before Jan. 12. It was not known whether anything was stolen at the time of the report.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked car in the 200 block of Catalpa Place on or before Jan. 12. It was not known whether anything was stolen at the time of the report.

ARRESTS

Zhenyuan Li, 49, of Chicago, was arrested on Jan. 20 and charged with one count of misdemeanor prostitution after an undercover officer went into her business, Asian Spa at 921 Ridge Road, received a massage and was propositioned for a sexual act in exchange for money. Police said they identified the business on prostitution-related websites and it is currently not legally allowed to operate.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

ATM THEFT
Officers investigating a report of a loud noise around 4:15 a.m. on Jan. 11 discovered that someone had damaged an ATM at the Byline Bank, 100 Green Bay Road, and removed its contents. The amount of loss was not known at the time of the report.

CHECK FRAUD
A Sunset Road resident reported that someone had taken a check that had been left in a village deposit box, altered it and cashed it for a loss of more than $5,000 at some point between Dec. 23 and Jan. 12.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole an unlocked car from the driveway of a home in the 400 block of Sheridan Road between 5:06 and 5:12 a.m. on Jan. 13.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
A vandal used spray paint to deface the exterior wall of the former car dealership at 80 Green Bay Road

CAR BURGLARY/CREDIT CARD FRAUD
Someone burglarized a car that had been left unlocked while parked in the driveway of a home in the 500 block of Maple Street between 8 p.m. on Jan. 12 and 8 a.m. on Jan. 13 and stole cash and a credit card, which was later used in multiple unauthorized purchases totaling nearly $150.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
At some point between 3 p.m. Jan. 10 and 3:15 a.m. Jan. 14, someone scratched the ATM vault door, leaving behind yellow paint on the front of the ATM, for an unknown loss at the BMO Harris, 520 Green Bay Road.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Hill Terrace resident reported on Jan. 10 that someone had used their identity to make an unauthorized purchase using their Citibank credit card for a loss of $760.82.
  • On Jan. 10, a Fuller Lane resident reported that someone had used their identity to apply for a personal loan from SoFi.
  • A Chestnut Street resident reported that someone had used their identity to make multiple purchases using their Chase credit card between Jan. 1 and Jan. 10 for an $800 loss.

ARRESTS

Valentin Del Valle, 44, of the 9800 block of Keeler Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay and Church roads. Officers also ticketed him for improper lane usage and failure to signal.
