Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield Police Blotters: March 29 - April 4

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced.

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
A burglary alarm around 10 a.m. on March 27 alerted police to a break-in in the 400 block of Elder Lane. When they arrived, they found someone had stolen jewelry and coins and did an estimated $2,000 in damage to the home's doors.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a wallet from an unlocked car parked in the 500 block of Chestnut Street between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on March 29. The credit cards were used shortly after to make several unauthorized purchases for a loss exceeding $2,000.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 1300 block of Hackberry Lane reported that someone damaged two windows and the patio door of their home between 5:30 and 10:30 p.m. on March 30, causing an estimated $300 in repair costs.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Warwick Road resident reported that someone had used their credit card to make unauthorized purchases around 10:10 p.m. on March 29 for a loss of $350.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 47-year-old Evanston man and a 61-year-sold Winnetka man were issued citations for engaging in a disturbance and damaging property after someone called 911 to report an argument between two drivers near the intersection of Hill Road and Evergreen Lane prior to 7:30 a.m. on March 27. Police said they both got out of their cars and struck each others vehicle intentionally, causing damage.

A 21-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 1 a.m. on April 1 and charged with driving without a license following a traffic stop at the intersection of Sheridan Road and Mary Street. He was also cited for speeding, improper lane usage and marijuana possession.

Gabriel Quevedo, 25, of the 3200 block of North Elston Avenue in Chicago, was arrested following a traffic stop at 3:31 a.m. on April 1 in the 300 block of Birch Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for speeding, improper lane usage, no proof of insurance and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Michael R. Capizzano, 29, of the 1100 block of Rugeley Court in Addison, was arrested following a traffic stop at 4:48 a.m. on April 1 near the intersection of Elm Street and Lincoln Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for cannabis possession and blocking the intersection.

GLENCOE

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 19-year-old Oviedo, Florida man was ticketed for having cannabis and drug paraphernalia in the 700 block of Dundee Road at 12:18 a.m. on March 31.

Hector Romero, Jr., 37, of the 9400 block of North Washington Street in Niles, was arrested at 3:33 p.m. on April 1 in the 500 block of Washington Avenue and charged with burglary. Police said he was a former employee of the Skokie Country Club who broke in on two occasions and stole several bottles of wine. The second time, he was caught by employees the second time who called the cops.

A 29-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 1 a.m. on April 1 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Maple Hill Road and charged with driving without a valid license without insurance. He was also cited for improper use of turn signal and two counts of failure to properly secure a child under the age of 8.

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CAR/CAR BURGLARIES
Police are investigating several car burglaries reported in the 200 block of Churchill Street on the morning of March 26. One resident said someone had stolen keys out of their (possibly) unlocked car in the parked in a driveway and used them to drive away their other car, a 2011 Honda during the overnight hours of March 25 to 26. On the same block, two other cars, both likely unlocked, were reportedly rummaged through on the same night.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of Brookhill Drive reported that someone had gained accesss to their checking account and stole about $1,000 between March 23 to March 26.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 300 block of Eaton Street reported at 11:47 a.m. on March 30 that someone had entered their home, possibly through an unlocked door, and stolen electronics and more than $500 of personal items.

ARRESTS

A 47-year-old Northfield man was arrested at 4:43 p.m. on March 26 and charged with driving on a suspended license following an investigation into a traffic crash in the 1800 block of Willow Road.
