Winnetka Police Won't Call You for Donations

The Winnetka police department wants residents to know police officers and other village employees will not call you to solicit donations for any reason. 

Residents may have received calls in the past from unions that represent police departments throughout Illinois. The callers explain they are helping to raise funds for public safety. 

"These are legitimate organizations that solicit donations to support the police," said Joe Pellus, Winnetka deputy police chief. "People may have the impression the Winnetka Police Department or the village is contacting them directly, which is not the case." 

If residents prefer not to receive these types of phone solicitations, registering with the National Do Not Call Registry will stop them from occurring. 

To add your phone number to the registry, call (888) 382-1222 from the phone number you would like blocked and enter the ten digit phone number.  

You can also visit the National Do Not Call Registry website and click on 'Register a Phone Number' in the left column.  

Registration is free and does not expire. 

If after 31 days you still receive phone calls from telemarketers, you are advised to file a complaint.
