NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
Someone used an American Express card that was still in the possession of a Bluff Street resident to buy more than $983 worth of merchandise in an online transaction, police were told on Jan. 27.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Lincoln Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of Feb. 1 that someone had used their identity to fraudulently file for unemployment insurance benefits.
  • A Wentworth Avenue resident reported on the night of Feb. 1 that someone had used their identity in an unsuccessful attempt to open a T-Mobile account.

ARRESTS

A 29-year-old Glencoe man was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 29 in the area of Dundee Road and Beinlich Court and charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

There were no incidents or arrests reported by the Kenilworth Police Department for the week ending Jan. 28.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

FRAUD

A Wagner Road resident reported on Jan. 24 that they had been scammed out of more than $1,000 after clicking on a pop-up message on a computer. That led to a phone call with a scammer who told the resident that their accounts had been comprised and that they needed to buy gift cards.

IDENTITY THEFT ATTEMPT
An employee at Village Hall, 361 S. Happ Road, reported on Jan. 25 that someone had emailed them a request to change payroll information in a suspected attempt to steal their identity.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone smashed the window of a car parked in the 400 block of Wagner Road between 12:30 and 1 p.m. on Jan. 30 and stole a purse from inside while its owner was walking a dog in the nearby park.

ARRESTS

A 49-year-old Winnetka woman was arrested around 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 27 and charged with driving with no valid driver's license following a traffic stop near Willow Road and the Edens Expressway. Officers also ticketed her for disobeying a stop sign.

A 44-year-old Northfield man was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 29 and charged with driving without a license following a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Willow Road. He was also cited for no rear registration plate light.

A 24-year-old Vernon Hills woman was arrested around 6:45 a.m. on Jan. 30 and charged with driving without a license following a traffic stop on the Edens Expressway just north of Willow Road. Officers also issued her citations for operating an uninsured vehicle, operation of a vehicle with expired plates, suspended registration and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A resident in the first block of Indian Hill Road reported that someone stole suitcase from their porch on Jan. 22.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 3400 block of Wilmette Avenue reported on Jan. 23 that someone had broken into their house and stole personal items.

CHECK FRAUD
A Park Avenue resident reported on Jan. 24 that they mailed a $1,512 check to a landscaping company from the Wilmette post office. The resident later learned that someone had intercepted the check, changed it to the amount of $6,512 and cashed it in Arizona.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Jewel-Osco, 1517 Sheridan Road, reported around 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 25 that two male shoplifters had stolen 15 bottles of high-end alcohol of unspecified value.

STOLEN CAR RECOVERED
A car stolen from the 500 block of Ridge Road on at some point between Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 was found in the 3200 block of Harrison Street in Evanston on Jan. 25. It was towered to the Wilmette police department for processing.

GARAGE BURGLARY
A resident of the 1900 block of Chestnut Avenue reported on Jan. 27 that someone had gotten into their unlocked garage. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.

HIT-AND-RUN
On Jan. 27, the driver of a red Jeep Cherokee headed west on Wilmette Avenue struck another car and fled the scene.

CAR BURGLARY

  • Someone stole unspecified items from an unlocked car parked in the 300 block of 3rd Street on or before Jan. 22.
  • Someone burglarized two cars in the 200 block of Ridge Road between Jan. 23 and Jan. 24.
  • Two unlocked cars were burglarized between Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 in the 500 block of Ridge Road
  • Someone stole various items from inside an unlocked car in the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue on Jan. 27.
  • Someone burglarized two unlocked cars parked in the 2100 block of Chestnut Avenue on or before Jan. 27, stealing items from one of them.

ARRESTS

Bernard Brooks, 59, of the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street, Chicago, was arrested shortly after 2 a.m. on Jan. 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and no valid driver's license following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Isabella Street. He refused to provide a breath sample and was also issued citations for improper lane usage.

George Foster, 18, of the 500 block of Chestnut Street, Winnetka, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Jan. 28 and charged with a zero tolerance violation after he was pulled over in the 2800 block of Lake Avenue. He was also issued citations for speeding and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.

Rashawn T. Withers, 33, of the 6400 block of North Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Jan. 25 and charged with burglary after a CTA employee he had burglarized her car in the lot. Withers told authorities he was homeless and burglarized cars to support himself, prosecutors said.

CAR BURGLARIES
A resident in the 600 block of Willow Road reported on Jan. 29 that someone had stolen a Kindle e-book reader from an unlocked car parked in the driveway and rummaged through two other cars for a loss of $800.

THEFT
A resident of the 800 block of Elm Street reported on the night of Jan. 29 that someone had taken a magnet from the back of their car for a $5 loss.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Indian Hill Road resident reported on Jan. 24 that someone had modified a check that had been left in a village deposit box for a loss of more than $3,000.
  • A resident of the 1400 block of Edgewood Lane reported on Jan. 24 that someone had used their identity to make more than $2,400 worth of purchases on a Chase credit card.
  • A resident in the 800 block of Elm Street reported on Jan. 28 that someone had used their identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits.

ARRESTS

Tremell Brown, 37, of the 7000 block of South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on Jan. 26 and arrested on three active in-state warrant and charged with retail theft from KMK Luxury Consignment, 410 Green Bay Road, after police got a call of a shoplifter returning to the scene of the crime.
