INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole an undetermined amount of cash from an unlocked Jeep prior to 11:45 a.m. July 26 in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue.

ELUDING POLICE
Police tried to pull over a driver for speeding more than 35 mph above the limit at Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway, but the unidentified driver refused to stop and sped away.

  • Someone used the identity of a Terrace Court resident to apply for a job at some point prior to 4:20 p.m. on July 31.
  • A Greenleaf Avenue resident reported on Aug. 2 that someone had used their identity to open an account with AT&T that was later canceled.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

SHOPLIFTING
Someone stole multiple cases of alcohol worth about $3,800 from the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Raod, on around 7:30 p.m. and again at about 9 p.m. on July 26, staff at the grocery store told police the following day.

CONTRACTORS SPOTTED
Around 11 a.m. on July 28, officers spotted two people use a ladder to get up to the second-floor balcony of a home in the first block of Hibbard Road. After contacting the homeowner and the two contractors, officers learned they had permission to be on the property.

FENCE DISPUTE
A resident in the 200 block of Churchill Street called police around noon on July 28 to report a dispute with a neighbor involving the staining of a fence. Officers referred the neighbors to village hall for advice.

UNWANTED NEIGHBOR
A landlord in the 500 block of North Happ Road reported around 1 p.m. on July 31 that the occupant of a neighboring property had crossed the property line without permission and spoken to the tenant renting the property. Officers told the neighbor they were banned from the property at the landlord's request.

PURSE THEFT
Someone stole a purse from a diner in the outdoor seating area at The Happ Inn, 305 S. Happ Road, prior to 7:30 p.m. on July 31.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone smashed a window of a parked car in the lot of the Northfield Park District, 401 Wagner Road, and stole a purse from inside prior to 8 p.m. on Aug. 1.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 54-year-old Northfield woman was issued a local ordinance citation for a violation of the village's noise ordinance following reports of loud music coming from a home in the first block of Meadowood Lane prior to 11 p.m. on July 31. Officers delivered a second warning at 11:30 p.m. and issued a citation at 11:45 p.m.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone keyed a car parked at Centennial Park, 2300 Old Glenview Road, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 28.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a bicycle left unlocked in a parking area outside a building in the 600 block of Green Bay Road.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident in the 1900 block of Schiller Avenue reported that someone stole their golf clubs from inside an unlocked car during the night of Aug. 3 or early morning hours of Aug. 4.

TECH SUPPORT SCAM
A Maple Avenue resident reported that they were scammed out of at least $500 after getting a call from someone who identified themselves as "Charlie Miller" and claimed to be an Apple employee. The scammer claimed the resident's computer was hacked and she needed to buy Target gift cards to fix it. When the resident returned to buy five more gift cards for a promise of "total protection," staff at a Jewel-Osco told her she had been scammed.

GARAGE BURGLARIES

  • Someone got into an unlocked, detached garage in the 1500 block of Isabella Avenue between noon and 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 and stole a child's bicycle from inside.
  • Officers responding to a report of a suspicious incident in the 1000 block of Elmwood Avenue around 5:44 a.m. on Aug. 4 found a car that had been burglarized after it was left unlocked inside an unlocked, detached garage.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • On July 29, residents of Washington Avenue, Seneca Road and Ashland Avenue all reported receiving fraudulent debit cards from the state unemployment agency after their identities were used to apply.
  • On July 30, the department received nine more similar complaints.
  • On Aug. 4, residents of Leamington and Greenwood avenues made similar reports.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

TELEPHONE HARASSMENT
Police are investigating after someone left multiple threatening messages at a restaurant on Green Bay Road prior to 2 p.m. Aug. 2.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone stole an unattended boy's bicycle left in a driveway in the first block of Golf Lane between 5:30 and 5:42 p.m. on July 27 for a loss of $400.
  • Someone stole an unlocked girl's bicycle left in the 700 block of Elm Street between 3 p.m. July 25 and 3 p.m. July 26.

RETAIL THEFTS

  • Someone stole an item worth $136 from a business located at 566 Chestnut St. between 9:50 and 10 a.m. on July 31.
  • Staff at the Walgreens, 925 Green Bay Road, reported on Aug. 1 that someone had stolen several items worth nearly $534 between 12:33 and 1:04 p.m. that afternoon.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Westmoor Road resident discovered that someone applied for unemployment benefits using their identity on July 15.
  • A Forest Street resident found out that someone used their identity to apply for unemployment benefits around 3 p.m. on July 25.
  • A Tower Road resident discovered that someone applied for unemployment benefits using their identity on July 27.
  • A Poplar Street resident discovered that someone had used their identity to apply for unemployment benefits between July 17 and July 31.
  • Someone used the identity of a Linden Street resident to apply for unemployment benefits between Aug. 1 and Aug. 2.
