Thanksgiving 2017: What's Open, Closed In Winnetka & Glencoe
Find out mall and grocery store opening hours, trash pickup schedule and what businesses will be closed for Thursday's holiday.

WINNETKA, IL — This Thanksgiving and Black Friday promise to be some of the busiest travel days this year. Whether you're in town for a visit or a longtime resident, it's helpful to know which places are extending hours like never before, and which are taking a step back to enjoy "turkey day" apart from the retail frenzy. Here's a list of public services, institutions, retailers and restaurant hours for Thanksgiving 2017.
Post Office: Post offices are closed on Thanksgiving but will resume operations on Friday.
Village Hall: Village halls in Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24.

Public Libraries: Closed on Thanksgiving.
Garbage Collection: In Glencoe, Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS will continue with the Village's previous holiday garbage and recycling collection schedule. For the Thanksgiving holiday, garbage collection will be delayed by one day for Thursday and Friday garbage collection zones, with Thursday collection on Friday and Friday collection on Saturday. In Winnetka, Monday & Tuesday collections will be as usual, while Thursday collections will take place a day early, on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Friday collections will go ahead normally. In Northfield, scheduled refuse collection for Thanksgiving will be delayed by one day.

Banks: Most major banks are closed on Thanksgiving Day, and most will open on Friday. Call your branch to verify.
Schools: Winnetka, Glencoe and Northfield elementary schools and New Trier High School will all be closed Nov. 22 -24.
Thanksgiving Shopping Hours
Retailers: A couple of blogs dedicated to Black Friday deals say 72 retailers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Outlets that say they've tentatively taken the holiday off include: Abt Electronics, Ace Hardware, Barnes & Noble, Costco, Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Marshalls, Nordstrom and T.J. Maxx. National retailers that are expected to open on Thanksgiving include Best Buy, Kohl's, Macy's, Sears, Walgreens and Walmart. Target says it will close at midnight on Thanksgiving, then reopen at 6 a.m. Black Friday morning.
Lincolnwood Town Center will be open from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. and again from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
Northbrook Court's holiday hours run from 6 p.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving and from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.
Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center's Thanksgiving hours also run 6 p.m. to midnight. On Black Friday it is scheduled to open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Thanksgiving Grocery Store Hours Winnetka/Glencoe/Northfield/Wilmette:
- Aldi: Closed
- Binny's: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Foodstuffs: Closed
- The Fresh Market, 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Grand Food Center. 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. (Both Winnetka and Glencoe locations)
- Lakeside Foods: Closed
- Mariano's Northfield, 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. (Pharmacy Closed)
- Jewel-Osco, 411 N. Green Bay Rd., 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Pharmacy Closed)
- Jewel-Osco, 1517 Sheridan Rd., 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Trader Joe's: Closed.
- Treasure Island Foods, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Fun Events
Merry & Bright Holiday Celebration: On the eve of Thankgiving, celebrate the start of the holiday season at Henry J. Kalk Park (On Nov. 22, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) to watch the Gazebo lights get turned on, celebrate with glow-in-the-dark games, live music from the band Shout Out! and a flashlight treasure hunt at 5:45 for children ages 2-8.
Turkey Day Skate: Ahead of Thanksgiving dinner, take advantage of your only chance for public skating at the Winnetka Ice Area over the weekend (due to the Wishbone Tournament) and enjoy a special skate day from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Admission $2, Skate rental, $4.)
Black Ice Friday: Then, on Black Friday, come celebrate opening day at Watts Ice Center for a free event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. including mini-lessons, games and more.
