Thieves Hit More Than A Dozen Unlocked Vehicles: Winnetka Crime

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Winnetka Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges can be dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent unless they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

THEFT

Someone stole an unattended bicycle worth $100 that was left in the 500 block of Maple Street between noon on June 10 and noon on June 12. It was reported the evening of June 12.

THEFT

Someone attempted to render services under fraudulent circumstances in the 900 block of Hill Road sometime between 4 p.m. and 6:37 p.m. on June 13. There was no immediate reported loss.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone made more than $967 in unauthorized purchases using the Citibank credit card of a resident on the 500 block of Rosewood Avenue between June 1 and June 11. It was reported to police the morning of June 14.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT

Two unlocked vehicles were stolen from the 600 block of Green Bay Road between 8 a.m. June 15 and 2:34 a.m. on June 16, police were told. The vehicles were later located in the area.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

Someone used blue and red spray paint to deface a traffic signal post, panel box and trash container around the 600 block of Green Bay Road. Police discovered the damage at 2:34 a.m. June 16, the same time as the above incident. Officers notified the Winnetka Department of Public Works. An estimated repair cost was not immediately provided.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle on the 100 block of Fuller Lane and rummaged through its contents between 9:30 p.m. on June 15 and 5:06 a.m. on June 16, police were told. There was no immediate reported loss.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

Someone spray painted five brick pillars in front of a local cleaner's business in the 1000 block of Tower Road. Police believe it occured between 6 p.m. June 15 and 5 a.m. June 16. Repair costs were not immediately disclosed.

Someone entered a vehicle in the 100 block of Fuller Lane and rummaged through its contents between 8 p.m. June 15 and 5:30 a.m. June 16. There was no immediate reported loss.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

Someone entered two unlocked vehicles that had been left in a driveway in the 100 block of Fuller Lane between 7 p.m. June 15 and 6:56 a.m. June 16. There was no immediate reported loss.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of Fuller Lane between 10 p.m. on June 15 and 7 a.m. on June 16, rummaged through its contents and left its doors open. There was no immediate reported loss.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle on the 100 block of Fuller Lane between 11:45 p.m. on June 15 and 7 a.m. on June 16, rummaged through its contents and left the vehicles doors open. There was no immediate reported loss.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Someone entered a garage on the 100 block of Fuller Lane sometime between 9:30 p.m. on June 15 and 6:30 a.m. on June 16 and stole three Trek bicycles and a bike helmet worth more than $5,000.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Someone entered two unlocked vehicles and stole a pair of sunglasses in the 100 block of Fuller Lane between 4:20 p.m. on June 15 and 6 a.m. on June 16. The garage was also burgled, a boy's bicycle and helmet were taken for an estimated loss of $1,545.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 800 block of Pine Street between 7 p.m. on June 15 and 9:50 a.m. on June 16 and removed a car key fob that was later recovered. There was no immediate reported loss.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle on the 100 block of Fuller Lane between 7:30 p.m. June 15 and 6:45 a.m. on June 16 and removed a pair of gym shoes valued at $100.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

Someone entered two unlocked vehicles and rummaged though their contents on the 100 block of Fuller Lane between 10:30 p.m. on June 15 and 8 a.m. on June 16.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Someone entered a garage on the 100 block of Fuller Lane between June 14 and June 18 and stole a Trek bicycle valued at $5000.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone used the personal identifiers of a resident of the 1300 block of Asbury Avenue to open several credit card accounts and make unauthorized purchases between June 8 and June 11 for a loss of $401.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone used the American Express card of a resident of the 500 block of Cedar Street to make unauthorized purchases between June 12 and June 14 for a loss of $786.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

Someone entered two unlocked vehicles in the 100 block of Fuller Lane between 6 p.m. on June 15 and 5:30 a.m. on June 16 and rummaged through their contents. There was no immediate reported loss.

WARRANT ARREST

Devon M. Shannon, 27, of the 900 block of North Cambridge Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for an in-state warrant on June 17 at 12:46 a.m. on the 200 block of Sheridan Road. Police said the arrest was made as a result of a traffic stop of a vehicle in which he was a passenger.

Police pulled over the vehicle he was riding in for an improper lane usage offense. According to police reports, the officer detected the smell of marijuana, conducted a search of the car, identified Shannon and found he had a warrant for contempt of court. As of Tuesday, he was being held at Cook County Jail without bond with a court date of Aug. 2.
