Underage Drinking, Counterfeit Credit Cards: Northfield Crime Reports

NORTHFIELD, IL — The following information comes from the Northfield Police Department as a record of police activity and of those arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indicator of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state, which are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

A 26-year-old Chicago man was arrested on Aug. 22 at 3:10 a.m. after police said he was driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone on Willow Road eastbound from Waukegan Road.
SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 20-year-old Chicago man was arrested Aug. 23 at 11:38 p.m. after police said he was driving 55 mph in a 30 mph zone, was pulled over and was found to be driving with a suspended license.
DUI
Shawn F. Brown, 25, of the 8800 block of Lavergne Avenue in Skokie, was arrested on Aug. 24 at 1:21 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. According to police, an officer on routine patrol on westbound Willow Road near the I-94 exit ramp witnessed a vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign. When the vehicle was pulled over over, the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI driving and driving with a suspended license. He was also issued citations for running the stop sign and illegal transportation of alcohol, while the vehicle's passengers were released without charge. Brown was assigned a court date of Sept. 25.

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
Five 17-year-old girls from New Trier township were issued citations for underage drinking by Northfield police working a New Trier High School football game on Aug. 25. Police said all five were found to have alcoholic beverages on their breath and agreed to take a preliminary breath test. Each was released to their parents pending a peer jury. Two of the five girls come from Winnetka, while one comes from Northfield, one from Glencoe and one from Wilmette.
UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON
Northfield police responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Willow and Waukegan roads shortly after midnight on Aug. 26, where they found a car with a bullet hole and a witness who described getting shot at following a road rage incident on the Edens Extpressway. Illinois State Police continue to investigate.

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
Police were responded to a report of an underage party in the 2300 block of Dorina Drive on Aug. 26 at 9:11 p.m. As they arrived, "numerous vehicles" were leaving the scene. At the residence, police found two juveniles with open alcoholic beverages in their hands and noticed open beer cans were visible through the window. Police said no adults were on the scene and issued citations to four 16-year-olds, two from Wilmette, one from Kenilworth and one from Glencoe. They were released to their parents or a guardian.
UNLAWFUL USE OF A CREDIT CARD
Bryant O. Williams, 27, of the 500 block of West 60th Street, Chicago, was arrested Aug. 28 at 6:18 p.m. after police responded to a call from the Mariano's at 1822 Willow Road for a report of a fraud in progress. Williams was arrested after allegedly fraudulently purchasing $431.88 worth of items from the grocery store. Police said they also found additional credit cards and debit cards they suspected were counterfeit.
