Unlocked Cars Stolen, Burglarized; Scam Attempts: Blotters
Incidents and arrests from the Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka police blotters for Aug. 16 to Aug. 22.

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

- Someone stole $50 worth of property from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 300 block of Walnut Street during the overnight hours of Aug. 14-15.
- Someone rummaged through an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 300 block of Walnut Street during the overnight hours of Aug. 14-15 but nothing was reported stolen.
- Someone stole cables and cash worth $85 from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 700 block of Foxdale Avenue during the overnight hours of Aug. 14-15.
- Someone rummaged through an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 700 block of Foxdale Avenue during the overnight hours of Aug. 14-15 but nothing was reported stolen.
THEFT
Someone stole six outdoor path lights from the front yard of a home in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue between July 20 and Aug. 14 for a reported loss of $60.
IDENTITY THEFT
Someone opened up several fraudulent credit card accounts using the identity of a Pine Street resident. The amount of loss was not known at the time of the report.

THEFT
Someone stole a bicycle worth $400 that had been left unlocked near the entrance to the Metra station at 754 Elm St.

THEFT
Someone stole a concrete saw from a work site in the 400 block of Green Bay Road sometime prior to the afternoon of Aug. 17.
FRENCH BANK INHERITANCE SCAM
An resident of Old Green Bay Road reported on the afternoon of Aug. 17 that they had received a letter claiming they were the sole heir to money in a French bank account. The letter suggested an arrangement to the the purported funds and requested a phone call.
STOLEN/BURGLARIZED CARS
On the night of Aug. 17 or early morning hours of Aug. 18, car thieves and burglars struck at least nine unlocked vehicles, three of which were stolen.
- Someone got into 5 unlocked vehicles in the 400 block of Washington Avenue, stealing a pair of pants out of one of them.
- Someone stole a Jeep that had its keys left inside from the 400 block of Washington Avenue.
- Someone stole an unlocked Jeep with its keys left inside from the 700 block of Greenwood Avenue.
- Someone got into an unlocked car in the 700 block of Greenwood Avenue without stealing anything.
- Someone stole an unlocked Dodge SUV from the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue that had its keys left inside.
SCAM ATTEMPT
A Park Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of Aug. 21 that someone had sent them a letter demanding a payment into a bitcoin account or they would threaten to reveal information about an affair. No payment was made.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Steven Zuluage, 32, of the 3300 block of Beacon Street in North Chicago, was arrested at 12:26 a.m. on Aug. 18 and charged with DUI and DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above following a traffic stop in the area of I-94 and Dundee Road. He was also issued citations for expired registration, no insurance and no front plate.
Marlon D. Chavez, 22, of the 8400 block of West Dempster in Niles, was arrested at 10:34 p.m. on Aug. 19 following a traffic stop in the area of Dundee and Hohlfelder roads and charged with obstructing identification and driving without a valid license. He was also issued citations for no front license plates and no insurance.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
STOLEN CAR
A Glenview resident reported on the afternoon of Aug. 17 that their vehicle had been stolen from a parking lot the 1700 block of Maple Street after it was left unlocked with the keys inside.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An employee of a business in the 300 block of Waukegan Road reported on the afternoon of Aug. 17 that their parked car had been scratched on the passenger side.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of Longmeadow Road reported on the afternoon of Aug. 19 that someone had damaged a planter and plants in their front yard, as well as an exterior light in the driveway about a month earlier.
ARRESTS
A 22-year-old Grayslake man was arrested at 7:38 p.m. on Aug. 17 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the area of Willow and Wagner roads. He was also cited for driving with expired registration.
