Vandal Damages Urns; Thieves Take Silver, Golf Flags: Winnetka Crime Reports

Winnetka Police Blotter: Aug. 8 - Aug. 21

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Winnetka Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by the police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges can be dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent unless they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

THEFT

A resident in the 1100 block of Oakley Avenue reported someone stole a package valued at $187 from a front porch sometime between 2:40 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 8.

CAR BURGLARY

A resident in the 200 block of Sheridan Road reported that someone rummaged through an unlocked car and stole $8 in change during the overnight hours of Aug. 9-10.

CAR BURGLARY

A resident in the 300 block of Hawthorn Lane reported that someone entered an unlocked car, rummaged through its contents and stole a key fob worth $300 during the overnight hours of Aug. 9-10.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On Aug. 10, a Winnetka Park District employee reported someone did $500 worth of damage to a newly poured cement pad around Crow Island Woods.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident of the 400 block of Hawthorn Lane reported that someone did $700 worth of damage to two urns attached to the front of a home between July 29 and Aug. 12.

DEFACEMENT

Someone used red spray paint to deface several pillars and areas along Green Bay Trail between Aug. 4 and Aug. 14, a village employee reported.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident in the 500 block of Walnut Street reported that someone did $100 in damage to a light post in the front yard during the overnight hours of Aug. 14-15.

THEFT

On the morning of Aug. 15, a resident in the 500 block of Elm Street reported that someone stole more than $2,000 worth of sterling silver from a residence between Aug. 7 and Aug. 9.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On the morning of Aug. 17, A resident of the 300 block of Fairview Lane reported that someone did $200 in damage to landscaping sometime during the overnight hours the previous night.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On the morning of Aug. 17, an employee in the 600 block of Hibbard Road reported that someone removed several putting flags worth $275 and did $300 worth of damage to a retaining wall sometime during the previous night.

IDENTITY THEFT

On the morning of Aug. 18, a resident of the 600 block of Garland Avenue reported that sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug. 18, sometime used their personal identifiers to open a Kohl's credit card and cash an electronic check out of state, expropriating more than $5,000.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On the afternoon of Aug. 20, a resident in the 1000 block of Mt. Pleasant Road reported that someone did $20 worth of damage to the glass pane on a light post sometime in the previous 24 hours or so.

Note: There were no reported arrests by the Winnetka Police Department during this two week period.
