All federal offices will be closed on Thanksgiving.

All banks will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Several chain restaurants like Applebee’s, Bob Evans, IHOP and Cracker Barrell will be open on Thanksgiving. Others like The Olive Garden, Hooters and The Outback Steakhouse will be closed.

Locally, Restaurant Michael in Winnetka, the Real Urban BBQ locations in Highland Park and Vernon Hills and Prairie Grass Cafe in Northbrook will be among the ones open during at least a portion of the day on the holiday.

Call ahead for specifics and making reservations. Here’s a list of North Shore restaurants that offered Thanksgiving specials in 2015.

Chain stores like Toys ‘R Us, Macy’s, Target and Best Buy will open doors on the evening of Thanksgiving. Lincolnwood Town Center and Old Orchard Mall in Skokie will be open late on Thanksgiving and early on Black Friday.

In Winnetka, village hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Refuse and recycling collections scheduled for Thursday will take place on Wednesday this week.

In Glencoe, village hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Garbage and recycling collections scheduled for Thursday will take place on Friday and collections scheduled for Friday will now take place on Saturday.

In Northfield, village hall will be closed on both Thursday and Friday.
