Winnetka Armed Robbery Report Results In Marijuana Charges For 5
They were arrested at gunpoint by a Wilmette cop who followed them down the Edens Expressway and later charged with cannabis felonies.

WINNETKA, IL — Five men arrested Monday in an SUV wanted in connection with a reported armed robbery in Winnetka have been charged with felony marijuana possession, police said. The men were taken into custody at gunpoint in Chicago by a Wilmette police officer who spotted the vehicle headed south on the Edens Expressway. Police were called called to a home in the 900 block of Ash Street around 4:15 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery, Winnetka police said in a release.
Detectives learned the group showed up at a home to meet with someone they knew with plans to commit a robbery, according to the release. However, investigators learned there were no weapons involved in the incident at the Ash Street house. Police got a warrant and searched the vehicle, finding more than 350 grams of "a cannabis substance," it said.
An initial report that $10,000 had been stolen from the caller turned out to be false, although some property and cash were found as a result of the investigation, according to the release. Wilmette police had earlier said the victim reported five people with handguns stole his shoes, wallet and the cash.

Winnetka Chief of Police Marc Hornstein said detectives determined there were no weapons involved in the alleged robbery, despite the information provided to responding officers who received the initial call. Some property was reported stolen, but it turned out it was less than $10,000, according to Hornstein. He said the investigation remains ongoing. Prosecutors approved a single felony count for each of the five men Wednesday.

Edin Mujkovic, 21, of the 3300 block of North Neva Avenue in Chicago; Adam Lee, 20, of the 9300 block of North Harlem Avenue in Morton Grove; Jeremy Lugo, 19, of the 2500 block of North New England Avenue in Chicago; Rafael Sahakyan, 18, of the 1100 block of Auburn Lane in Buffalo Grove and Rahman Ukoja, 18, of the 3300 block of North Neva Avenue in Chicago were charged with possession of between 100 and 500 grams of cannabis, according to police.

A bond hearing was held Thursday afternoon in Skokie, nearly 72 hours after they were taken into custody. A spokesperson for the Cook County Sheriff's Office said only one of the men remained in custody Thursday evening.
Lugo, Sahakyan and Ukoja were released on recognizance bonds. Mujkovich paid the $1,000 cash portion of a bond and was released. Lee also faces a battery charge and remained in custody in lieu of a $1,500 portion of the two bonds, the sheriff's office said.
