Winnetka Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested In Chicago
A Wilmette cop followed an SUV that had been reportedly involved in an armed robbery, pulled it over and held its occupants at gunpoint.

CHICAGO — Several people in an SUV suspected of involvement in an armed robbery in Winnetka Monday afternoon were taken into custody in Chicago. Police said an officer who recognized the vehicle followed it along the expressway before pulling it over near the intersection of Cicero and Peterson avenues, where he held the occupants at gunpoint until backup arrived.
Officers responded around 4:15 p.m. to a a call of an armed robbery in the 900 block of Ash Street, according to Winnetka Police Cmdr. Brian O'Connell. When officers arrived, people at the scene on the leafy residential lane west of Green Bay Road provided a description of the robbers' vehicle.
A short time later, a Wilmette police officer noticed the SUV headed southbound on the Edens Expressway, O'Connell said. The officer followed it off the expressway and pulled it over around 4:30 p.m. at a stoplight on Peterson Avenue, just off the exit.

The officer stood in the westbound lanes of Peterson for several minutes blocking traffic as he held the occupants of a Chevy Trailblazer with temporary tags at gunpoint, video shows. In addition to Wilmette police, officers from Chicago and Lincolnwood were spotted.
Winnetka police said the investigation remains ongoing. In a statement posted to social media, the department said officers canvassed the area and are confident that the incident was an "isolated event" between the people involved. Wilmette and Chicago police did not immediately respond to queries about the incident. No charges have been announced.
