Winnetka Crime: Identity Stolen, Used At Kohl's

Winnetka police reports: Feb. 28-March 6

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Winnetka Police Department. It is a record of police activities and arrests are indications of guilt. Criminal charges can be dropped or reduced and all defendants are innocent until their guilt is established in court.

RETAIL THEFT

On March 2, at 8:15 a.m., Margaret J. Handelman, 23, of the 100 block of West Fullerton Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for shoplifting after an investigation of two previous incidents that occurred at 566 Chestnut.

IDENTITY THEFT

A victim on the 500 block of Hawthorn Lane discovered at around noon on January 21st, someone used their identity to open up Kohl’s department store account and charged $951.85.

A victim on the 500 block of Willow Road discovered between Feb. 17 and Feb. 27 someone attempted to withdraw funds from their personal Chase bank accounts. There was no reported loss.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A victim reported that between 6:45 p.m and 8:10 p.m. on March 3, someone damaged the their driver side mirror, driver side door and fender on the 300 block of Winnetka Avenue, doing $500 worth of damage.

A victim on the 900 block of Pine Tree Lane reported that between 8:45 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. on March 4, someone damaged their car on the passenger and drivers side area somehow, doing $400 in damage.

A victim on the 800 block of Gordon Terrace reported that between 8:15 p.m. and 10:50 p.m. on March 4th, someone damaged a large front window, doing $2,500 worth of damage.
