WINNETKA, IL — Marc Hornstein has been appointed chief of the Winnetka Police Department on a permanent basis. He had been acting as interim chief since the departure of former chief Patrick Kreis last June, who became chief of Vernon Hills police following his retirement. Hornstein joined the department in 1993, according to a release, serving as a detective, a juvenile officer and a DARE officer before being named deputy chief in 2016.
“Marc prides himself on building partnerships and positive relationships with residents and community stakeholders to put the needs of the community first,” announced Village Manager Rob Bahan Wednesday. “The village is excited to welcome his authentic style of leadership and participatory management approach to the Police Department.”
Hornstein has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Northeastern Illinois University, a master's in public safety administration from Lewis University and graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, according to the release. He also teaches criminal justice related courses part time as a faculty member at Oakton Community College.
