Winnetka Swimmer Conor Dwyer Finishes 4th in 400-Meter Freestyle
Dwyer's time of 3:44.01 wasn't fast enough to earn him the bronze medal in Saturday's event at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Winnetka swimmer Conor Dwyer was unable to capture a medal in his first individual event at this year's Olympic Games, placing fourth in the 400-meter freestyle Saturday.
Dwyer's time of 3:44:01 wasn't fast enough to catch Italy's Gabriele Detti, who earned the bronze medal with a time of 3:43.49. Mack Horton, of Australia, won the gold medal in the event (3:41.55), and China's Sun Yang, who was event's defending gold medalist, earned the silver (3:41.68).
Earlier Saturday, Dwyer clocked a personal best time in the 400-meter freestyle—3:44.01—to advance to the medal round.

The next event Dwyer will compete in will be the 200-meter freestyle Sunday, Aug. 7. The competition begins at 11:19 a.m., and Dwyer is scheduled to race in Heat 6, which starts at 11:44 a.m.

At the 2012 Olympics in London, Dwyer earned a earned a gold medal as a member of the the U.S. team in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
