Winnetka Work Crews Battle Flooding From Weekend Storms
The village will be setting up a special trash pickup day for residents suffering flood damage.

WINNETKA, IL — The powerful thunderstorms that swept through Winnetka over the weekend had work crews dealing with flooding and power outages throughout the village.
Between 5:40 and 7:10 p.m. Saturday, July 23, about 2.75 inches of rain fell in Winnetka, causing widespread flooding, the village said in a statement Sunday. An additional 2.4 inches of rain fell during a second storm wave Saturday, and the combined rain total for both periods exceeded a 50-year storm event, according to the village.
Recent storm water improvements were able to handle the deluge that hit Winnetka's northwest and northeast areas, the village said. Officials also will be assessing the parts of the village affected by the storms.
