Dozens Attend Woodridge Tree Lighting

Business, chamber and village officials, the choir and Santa could all be found at Friday's Woodridge tree lighting ceremony. 

The tree lighting had been a village tradition until a few years ago, when it was cut because of budget restraints, according to  President Amy Melinder. 

It formerly took place in the Towne Center, put on by the Woodridge Special Events Committee with the support of the . This year's event took place in the Seven Bridges shopping center. 

The chamber's Seven Bridges committee worked with the Woodridge Special Events Committee to bring back the event, though in a different location. The Chamber's Seven Bridges committee works in the interests of Seven Bridges businesses, Melinder said. This group also organizes  event.

In the past, community organizations would sign up for a tree and then decorate it, usually with a theme. The Special Events Committee would provide the trees; the Woodridge Public Works department would provide the lights.  

This year businesses provided the trees. Organizations paired with businesses decorated them.
