Democratic Women of DuPage County Annual Brunch Meeting

The Democratic Women of DuPage County will hold its annual organizational meeting on Saturday, January 21, 2012. The brunch meeting will take place at the Downers Grove Doubletree Hotel, 2111 Butterfield Rd, just west of I-355 at 10:00am. Brunch admission will be $40, $25 for students and the unemployed and $35 for DuPage Young Democrats members.

The organization is proud to announce that the keynote speaker is Margaret Blackshere, a former classroom teacher who served at all levels of the Illinois labor movement from president of her local union in Madison to statewide vice president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers.  She served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Illinois AFL-CIO from 1993 to 2000 when she was elected President - the first woman to hold that post.  She has served on many boards and councils including United Way, Voices for Illinois Children, Illinois Women's Institute for Leadership, Unemployment Insurance advisory board and the Council for Global Affairs. Margaret has traveled throughout the world to improve the lives of workers and their families.  She was director of the Illinois Democratic Coordinated Campaigns in 1990 and 1992, has been elected delegate to Democratic National Conventions and is a member of the Democratic National Committee.

DWDC is proud to welcome Ms. Blackshere as she speaks about her experience as the first woman president of a major Illinois labor organization and her vision of the future of women in politics.
