Police: D68 Student Approached by Strangers on Way to School

A fifth-grade girl was approached by a stranger on her way to school in Woodridge on Thursday morning, police said. 

The girl, a student in District 68, was walking to school at 7 a.m. when a man exited a blue mini van and said to the girl, "Hey, you coming with us?" 

Police said the student continued to walk to school and immediately reported the incident. District officials and parents were notified, and police increased patrols around the schools. 

The incident occurred while the student was walking in the 7800 block of Woodridge Drive. 

The man who approached the student is described as a male in his 20s, with light tan skin and short dark hair, wearing a gray knit jacket and dark pants. 

There was also a female passenger in the van who is described as being in her early 20s with long dark hair. Police said she had no communication with the student. The blue minivan was said to be a newer model, but no further information was immediately available.

Police reminded students to never talk to strangers or accept rides from them, and to immediately report such incidents.
