Cypress Cove Profits Went Up

Profits at Cypress Cove for the 2010 season were $404,653. That's a 73 percent increase from 2009, which posted a profit of $233,528.

Lifeguards Receive 5 Star Award All Summer

Cypress Cove's lifeguard staff received the 5 Star Safety Award for June, July and August from StarGuard.

Hobson Corner Park Treated to Prevent Falls

The Woodridge Park District received news of slips on the concrete at the park while the fountain was running. Park District Staff used a large heated power washer and scrubber to remove the sealant on the concrete. Staff will continue to monitor the surface and power wash regularly to remove lotions and body oils that run onto the surface.

Village Greens

Attendance Down

Village Greens hosted 6712 rounds of golf in August, down from 7469 rounds in Aug. 2009. The course was closed three days for weather.

Weather Not Fair to the Fairways

Village Greens staff is in the process of repairing all fairways and tee boxes. This summer's flooding, heat and humidity take a toll on the turf. Village Greens anticipates $45,000 in additional expenses, not including labor, for chemicals and seed to restore the damaged areas.

Parks

Skate Park Opens Thursday

Much of the work on the skate park has been completed since Saturday, Sept. 11. The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Thursday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.

Somerset Park Park Construction

The playground, swing structure, concrete flatwork and curbing and drinking fountain have been completed. Landscape and sod installation and the park shelter are scheduled to be completed this week.

Goodrich Swings Received

The swings were delivered on Sept. 7 and will be installed this fall.

Flooding at Echo Park Resolved

The Park District replaced a drain line that was clogged.

Sports Fields

Fields at rest

Part of the Falconridge soccer field and Jane's soccer fields 2 & 3 are being rested for the 2010 fall season. All sports fields are being aerated and fertilized for the fall season.

Jefferson Jr. High Backstop Project Completed

Two backstop structures and dugout pads were replaced and new dugout benches were added at Jefferson Jr. High School on Friday, Sept. 10.

Programs

Kidz Squad

In its fourth season, Kidz Squad participation totals are down 7 percent from last year. There are 110 children in the program.

Totschool

There are 130 children in Totschool, its highest level since 2006-2007.
