Woodridge Village Board Reduces Tax Levy by $9,500

The average Woodridge household will still see an increase of about $7 in its village tax bill.

The was called to a special meeting Thursday morning and voted to decrease its portion of the tax levy by $9,500. 

Since the property tax is spread over all taxpayers, the decrease in individual tax bills will be slight, said Jack Knight, management analyst for the village. Woodridge households will still see an average increase of $7 on their village tax bill this year. 

Trustees Greg Abbott, Joseph Kagann and Gina Cunningham-Picek were present for the meeting. Trustees Anne Banks, Pamela Beavers and David Pittinger were absent. Mayor William F. Murphy was present, so quorum was established.

The village board that was a 3 percent increase from 2010. That levy included the tax levy. 

The village will abate $9,500 from its portion of the levy, reducing the village tax levy from $1,837,000 to $1,827,500. The village tax rate will be reduced from $.2777 to $.2768.

The decrease in the village's equalized assessed value information was less than expected, prompting the abatement. The village received its tax levy and equalized assessed value information from DuPage and Will County March 26.

The village had anticipated a 5.6 percent decrease in EAV. The village's EAV now totals $1,149,284,854 with TIF valuation, a 4.8 percent decrease over the 2010 EAV. The 2011 EAV put the village $8,956 over its self-imposed tax cap, prompting village officials to recommend a $9,500 abatement. 

The village needed to notify the Assessor's Office of any changes in its tax levy by April 2, which made a specially called meeting necessary. The village will receive its finalized tax extension in May.
