Man, 22, Charged With DUI In Crash That Killed 4-Year-Old, 2 Adults: State Police

YORKVILLE, IL — A 22-year-old Sugar Grove man is charged with multiple felonies in connection with the death of three people, including a 4-year-old, in a drunk-driving crash in Kendall County, Illinois State Police said Monday.

Police said Carson M. Rehkopf was driving a Chevrolet Impala south on Route 71 near Walker Road in Millbrook on Friday night when he attempted to pass several cars and collided head-on with an SUV, triggering a four-vehicle crash, Patch reported.

Illinois State Police were called at 9:15 p.m. to the crash scene, where passenger Amy Lee Witter, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other occupants of the SUV were taken to area hospitals, where two of them were pronounced dead, according to state police.

James Witter was taken to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora and later pronounced dead. State police on Monday gave his age as 61, while the coroner's office said he was 65.

A 4-year-old girl was taken to Valley West Hospital in Sandwich and later pronounced dead.

All occupants of the SUV are from Des Moines, Iowa, state police said.

Rehkopf, of the 4S900 block of Dauberman Road, was also injured in the crash, police said.

He is charged with six counts of aggravated driving under the influence involving death, two counts of aggravated DUI involving great bodily harm and multiple traffic offenses. He remains in custody at the Kendall County jail, with his next court date scheduled for Aug. 17.

The July 31 crash was the second fatal head-on collision in the past week that police say was caused by a driver attempting to pass another vehicle in Kendall County.

Two days prior, a 49-year-old man died in a Little Rock Township crash that also injured a woman and children, Patch reported.
