'If you call the cops, I'm pointing this rifle at them': 18-year-old charged following Carmel police shooting (fox59.com) — An Indianapolis teen has been charged after allegedly pointing a rifle at Carmel police during an Aug. 6 welfare check stop on U.S. 31, where officers shot and wounded him. Court documents describe prior suicidal statements and a recorded threat to provoke police gunfire, and note he is expected to recover. The piece also highlights the 988 crisis line for anyone in mental distress. 
2. Inspection reports show Carmel bridge was in good condition before partial collapse (wrtv.com) — Hazel Dell Parkway Bridge in Carmel, rated in good condition during 2023 and 2025 inspections, still suffered a partial collapse after record rainfall on August 15. Officials have stabilized the site using a temporary dam and National Guard sandbags, but the 1998 bridge now requires full replacement, and the area remains closed to the public.
3. Indianapolis Greek Festival returns Aug. 21-22 with food, music and culture (wishtv.com) — Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on West 106th Street in Carmel will host the free Indianapolis Greek Festival this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 21–22. Residents can enjoy Greek food, live music, dancing, cathedral tours, kids' activities, and a marketplace, and can earn free loukoumades by bringing items for the festival's flood relief drive.
4. Check out Hamilton County's only public military museum (wthr.com) — Tucked inside a small house near College Avenue and 108th Street, Carmel's Clay Township Military Library and Museum preserves stories and artifacts from Hamilton County veterans. Run by volunteers, the nonprofit museum is seeking more help, funding, and technology upgrades so visitors can better connect each uniform and artifact with the personal stories behind them.
5. Hamilton County businesses turn to what's next after historic flooding (wthr.com) — Hamilton County businesses are still drying out after last week's historic flooding, including the Carmel Equestrian Center, which had to evacuate about two dozen horses and is now sanitizing barns and equipment. Nearby, Noblesville's White River Canoe Company and Schwartz's Bait and Tackle are also cleaning up and aiming to reopen with strong community support. Some horses are already beginning to return, bringing a sense of normalcy back to Carmel's equestrian scene.
