IFD Firefighter Falls Through Structure Hole During Early Morning Fire
Details of fire including firefighter's fall and structure damage.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Indianapolis Fire Department reports a firefighter is okay after falling through a hole during a Monday morning fire. IFD officials said crews were on the scene of an unoccupied residence fire at 1521 West Vermont Street around 2:45 a.m. IFD said 13 department crews were on scene, and the fire was reported under control by 3 a.m.
IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith said Mayday was declared when the firefighter fell through a hole inside the residence, falling from the first floor into the basement, where he was located crew members. Reith said he was checked on scene and able to walk out on his own before returning back to work.
According to Reith, Battalion Chief Scott McCarty reported damage from the fire is estimated at $40,000.
