Indianapolis Fire Department officials report 45-year-old firefighter was taken to IU Methodist Hospital.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — An Indianapolis Fire Department firefighter is in stable condition at IU Methodist Hospital after falling through a roof during a Thursday morning fire in the 1400 block of Charles St., according to IFD officials. IFD said crews responded to a vacant double residence fire at 1409 Charles St just before 1:30 a.m., as seen in the video provided by IFD, and had the flames under control after 2 a.m. Officials said the IFD firefighter was injured after falling through a porch roof, landing on his head. The 45-year-old, 22-year IFD veteran was removing siding from the second story when the porch roof gave way.
IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith said the firefighter was taken to the hospital in serious condition and was unconscious, but has seen been listed as stable, alert and able to talk.
