• Higher wheel taxes rolling for Chesterton come Jan. 1 (chicagotribune.com) — Chesterton residents will see higher vehicle registration and wheel taxes starting Jan. 1, as the Town Council moves to offset a projected $1.6 million property tax shortfall. The added revenue will fund street paving, including Prairie Duneland Trail resurfacing and several badly worn neighborhood streets, while local police prepare for a future 911 dispatch consolidation with Porter County.
