• City of Elkhart breaks ground for new Ullery Park revitalization project (wsbt.com) — Elkhart has officially broken ground on a major revitalization of Ullery Park on West Cleveland Avenue, adding a splash pad, walking paths, new lighting, and more family-friendly features. City leaders say the project, part of Mayor Rod Roberson’s ASPIRE initiative, is the most significant investment in the park and surrounding neighborhood in years, aiming to better connect residents and give kids more to do outdoors.

• Elkhart Police launch billboard recruiting campaign to fill open spots on the force (abc57.com) — Elkhart Police are stepping up recruiting, including a new billboard near Notre Dame, to fill 17 open officer positions out of 143 budgeted roles. Leaders say calls are still being covered, but more officers would ease workloads, support specialized units, and prepare for upcoming retirements, with testing for new candidates scheduled next month.

• Proposed Capital Avenue rail line expansion project ends (wsbt.com) — A proposed rail expansion that would have linked the Elkhart Western Railroad to Canadian National tracks in Granger has been shelved after strong neighborhood opposition. St. Joseph County leaders pulled a federal rail study grant, citing safety, noise, and lack of current industrial demand. Officials say no money was spent and future grant impacts remain unclear.
