Minich is planning a city-wide celebration of the new location in the Spring and looks forward to bringing together fitness enthusiasts and workplace wellness advocates from the region.
Existing Catalyst Fitness facilities are at 5928 Trier Road, Northeast Fort Wayne; and at 2488 Getz Road, Southwest Fort Wayne. Eight new full- or part-time jobs will be created at the third fitness center in the Anthony Wayne Building on the lower level (downstairs from the Hoppy Gnome).
Minich said the new 6,800 square foot downtown fitness center will offer personal trainers and a wide variety of strength and cardio equipment. Private changing rooms, showers and tanning facilities are available. He said as members join at the new site a range of classes will be offered as well as a sauna.
“From day one, I’ve just wanted to make a difference in our community,” said Minich. “More than 20 years ago we started with personal training in Fort Wayne and have grown to three state-of-the-art fitness facilities that still employ personal trainers. The most recent innovation is workplace wellness.”
Minich said Catalyst Fitness works with multiple local companies to provide health and wellness services to their employees, including fitness coaching and classes. His business has also designed, built, serviced, and maintained on-site fitness centers and equipment for local companies such as Vera Bradley, BAE Systems, Fort Wayne Metals, and others.
“Catalyst Fitness is more than a gym,” said Minich. “Initially, we plan to work hard to provide a convenient, fresh, and motivating gym that serves the downtown area. Beyond that, we will be doing a wide variety of things including fitness and wellness events and challenges with the downtown community. Our hope is to partner with downtown businesses to engage the local community to promote healthy activity and exercise.
Minich is married to Lindsey, who is the general manager of Catalyst Fitness. They have four children.
In his 25-year career, Minich has enjoyed long-standing relationships and respect among the medical and fitness communities with a history of recommendations from other professionals. In 2009, he was voted as one of the Top 10 Personal Trainers in North America by a panel of fitness industry experts.
“As the founder and leader of Catalyst Fitness as well as co-founder of Upward Nutrition, helping people of all ages and abilities achieve their wellness goals and experience better health as well as belief in themselves has been my driving force,” said Minich. “I am a certified personal trainer, speaker, business consultant, and educator, leveraging my expertise and experience to make a positive difference in my community and beyond.”
When not in the gym, Minich previously hosted the Smart Fitness Show, inspiring listeners with expert interviews, guidance, and success stories about wellness and fitness best practices. He also holds a degree in wellness from Taylor University, multiple certifications, and offers gym business and personal trainer consulting services to empower other fitness professionals.
The Fort Wayne entrepreneur—who is a native of rural Hoagland, Ind.—credits his parents for his work ethic, drive and passion. “Running a small business—especially a service business—is not for the faint of heart,” said Minich. “There are many challenges every single day. You have to have a good work ethic and also a love for what you do and the people you serve. Without that, it can be extremely difficult to stand the test of time. It’s easy to burn out in this type of business. I love what I do and look forward to continuing to grow fitness opportunities throughout the Fort Wayne region.”
