Paws and Smiles: A Weekly Visit from Three Rivers Visiting Dogs

Every Tuesday afternoon, rain or shine, something truly heartwarming happens at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. The volunteers from Three Rivers Visiting Dogs arrive, accompanied by their furry companions, ready to bring love, laughter, and comfort to residents and staff at the senior living community. For 23 years, this wonderful group has been faithfully visiting Heritage Pointe.

Last week, eight visiting dogs were welcome. “Their presence brings joy to everyone at our community,” said Brad Fuller, activity director at Heritage Pointe. “The fine people who share their dogs with us say that the dogs look forward to coming to Heritage Pointe of Huntington as much as we look forward to having them visit.” The dogs definitely know their way around. “They head straight for the front desk and Memory Lane, where they know that tasty treats await them,” Brad added.

The connection between animals and older adults is powerful. Studies have shown that time spent with animals can help lower blood pressure, ease anxiety, and spark conversation and memories. This is especially true for individuals living with dementia. The unconditional love and companionship that the dogs provide is deeply comforting and their visits often become the highlight of the week.
