Missing since 2024 from Gary, Indiana: Ja'Niyah Aubrielle McMichael was only 13 when she vanished (newsbreak.com) — Gary residents are being urged to help find Ja'Niyah McMichael, who disappeared from her home on Malcolm X Boulevard in August 2024 and is still listed as missing. Police, the FBI, and national organizations are investigating, with a reported $30,000 reward for information. Gary man facing attempted murder charge for allegedly beating woman (chicagotribune.com) — A 50-year-old Gary man is jailed on an attempted murder charge after police say they found him standing over his badly injured girlfriend in an apartment lobby on West 5th Avenue. Witnesses reported he was stomping her as she lay defenseless, and doctors have placed her in a medically induced coma for severe head and spine injuries. The case underscores ongoing concerns about violent domestic incidents in Gary.
   

3. Orland Park woman dies after being ejected in I‑80/94 crash (chicagotribune.com) — A woman from Orland Park, Illinois died Sunday morning after her SUV collided with a semi and overturned off I‑80/94 near the Burr Street exit in Gary. Gary Fire Department paramedics initially found her conscious, but her condition worsened at Methodist Hospitals Northlake, where she was pronounced dead from multiple blunt force injuries as state police continue investigating the crash.
   

4. Indiana statehouse committee to investigate power outages after August storm (chicagotribune.com) — State lawmakers are convening Wednesday to scrutinize how NIPSCO handled the August 11 derecho that left some Northwest Indiana residents, including many in Gary, without power for weeks. Gary Mayor Eddie Melton backs an independent investigation and says he's pushing for stronger infrastructure, better emergency response, and a more reliable energy system for Gary customers.
