Colts Kicker Adam Vinatieri gets new deal and a chance to set a scoring record goal: Report

Indianapolis Colts fans, teammates, office staff and former Colts are praising another exciting update from the team as we head into the weekend, after the Colts said they've extended kicker Adam Vinatieri's contract for another season. On Thursday, the 45-year-old kicker signed a one-year deal to stay with the Indianapolis Colts, and the team reports Vinatieri said this contract may not be his last. While the team says salary details aren't immediately available, the deal is thought to be in the realm of his $3 million salary last year.

Vinatieri also mentioned during a conference call that he will receive a $250,000 bonus if he makes 88 percent of his field goal attempts during the upcoming season after missing barely missing out on a bonus for making 90 percent in 2017.

Not only does the team say Vinatieri is going to try and break the league's career scoring record, but he will also try and pass Morten Andersen for the most points in NFL history, needing seven field goals to pass Andersen for the most in the league's history.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection has played in 337 games, including during 10 seasons (1996-2005) with the New England Patriots, and the only kicker in NFL history to have successful field goals in four Super Bowls, the Colts say.

“I know 57, 58 points away is definitely within reach this year if I stay healthy and all that,” said Vinatieri, who has scored 2,487 points., according to a release from the Colts. “I really wanted to break that record wearing a Colts helmet where I’ve played the majority of the years in my career now.”
