Indianapolis Fire Department To Conduct Second Smoke Alarm Blitz Of 2017

The areas being covered by Indianapolis Fire Dept. crews and other volunteers during the upcoming smoke alarm blitz.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Indianapolis Fire Department will carry out their second neighborhood smoke alarm blitz of the year Wednesday, Aug. 23, according to a release. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in areas West and North of Arsenal Tech High School. During the event IFD firefighters, with the assistance of Arsenal Tech Fire Rescue Program students and Indy American Red Cross volunteers, will go door to door talking to residents and installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in homes where the tools are needed.

This is one of several blitzes scheduled for 2017 as IFD reports their number one priority is to provide community members with the tools and education necessary for fire safety.

Smoke alarms were donated by State Farm and carbon monoxide by First Alert, and all comply with a city ordinance passed in 2014 which calls for a 10-year sealed smoke alarm in every home, according to IFD.
