These social clubs are for Black and queer women (mirrorindy.org) — Indianapolis is seeing new social clubs specifically for Black and queer women, offering spaces for friendship, wellness, and creativity. Groups like Black Girl Playground, Les Go Outside, and the Indy Black Lesbian Journal Club are organizing walks, mixers, journaling meetups, and future events so local women can build community without having to mute their identities.
   

2. 25 Indianapolis fall festivals fill your calendar (mirrorindy.org) — Indianapolis residents have a packed fall calendar, with 25 upcoming festivals ranging from neighborhood church fairs and Oktoberfests to major events like Penrod Arts Fair, Indy Jazz Fest, Circle City Classic and the Irvington Halloween Festival. Most are in-city, many are free or low-cost, and several highlight specific neighborhoods, arts, food, and cultural traditions you can experience over the next two months.
   

3. Indianapolis man convicted in deadly 2023 crash, avoids drunk driving conviction (wthr.com) — An Indianapolis man has pleaded guilty to felony charges for a 2023 hit-and-run crash on Southport Road that killed 20-year-old Avery May and seriously injured his girlfriend, but avoided any drunk driving conviction due to lack of a blood test. He faces up to 10 years in prison, plus a three-year license suspension after release, with sentencing set for Oct. 19.
   

4. US Rep. Spartz seeks transparency over $2 billion VA investment in Indiana (wishtv.com) — A $2 billion federal investment is headed to modernize Indianapolis' Roudebush VA Medical Center and build a new clinic in Fishers, and Rep. Victoria Spartz is pressing the VA for detailed spending and bidding information. She's seeking transparency on construction costs, contractor choices, and how the upgrades will actually improve care for Indianapolis-area veterans, especially in mental health.
   

5. Gov. Braun says he believes ICE ramp-up in Indiana is over (indystar.com) — Gov. Mike Braun says he believes a recent spike in ICE enforcement across Indiana, including Indianapolis, has ended, though neither his office nor city officials received advance notice of the operation. After reports of arrests at local businesses, protests and faith responses spread through Indianapolis, anecdotal sightings have declined, but there's still no official confirmation that ICE activity here is finished.
