Decades of no Sunday carryout alcohol sales in Indiana could come to an end on this date thanks to another big step in the Statehouse: More

ACROSS INDIANA -- If all goes as planned in the Indiana Statehouse, we could begin to buy carryout alcohol on Sunday for the first time in state history very soon, thanks to the help of an Indiana House vote on Bill 1051 Tuesday. Before this can happen, the measure needs to get one more vote in the Senate, although the Senate already passed Bill 1 recently, which is nearly the same as the House's Bill 1051. According to the Statehouse, it would then be passed to Gov. Eric Holcomb.

House Bill 1051 allows the following businesses to sell alcoholic beverages for carryout from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday:

  • A package liquor store, grocery store, convenience store, or drug store.
  • A restaurant that satisfies the requirements to sell carryout.

It will be interesting to see how fast stores, such as liquor businesses, that are closed Sunday will be able to get prepared to open on Sundays if the highly-supported measure passes.
