Certified specialists and student volunteers are helping reduce the high rate of incorrectly installed seats, and organizers say the popular safety event is expected to return next year.

• Man who beat boy for putting shoes on wrong feet gets 55-year sentence (jconline.com) — A Lafayette man has been sentenced to a total of 55 years, with just over 41 to serve, for the brutal beating of his 4-year-old cousin that led to the child's death. Tippecanoe Circuit Judge Sean Persin detailed the boy's suffering before imposing concurrent terms for aggravated battery and neglect, plus a habitual-offender enhancement, while the defense signaled plans to appeal.
