📰 News we're reading

• Lafayette man facing multiple charges after shooting coworker in the butt who he thought was going to fight him (wthr.com) — Lafayette police say a 19-year-old local man is charged after allegedly shooting a coworker during a dispute that continued from work to a South Creasy Lane parking lot. The victim, hit once in the buttocks, was hospitalized in stable condition. Court records show a high bond, a no-contact order, and a November 20 hearing locals may follow.

• Indiana senators feel heat after last year's redistricting bid (jconline.com) — Lafayette residents are at the center of Indiana's heated mid-decade redistricting fallout, with local Sen. Ron Alting defending his controversial "yes" vote and Sen. Spencer Deery standing by his "no." The piece explains how proposed maps would have split Lafayette, West Lafayette, Purdue and school communities, and how those choices shaped bruising 2026 primary battles and ongoing accountability debates.

• Application Window Opens For Indiana Heating Assistance (wlfi.com) — Lafayette residents struggling with winter heating bills can now apply for Indiana's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps eligible households cover electric and gas costs. CenterPoint Energy is also reminding customers about additional tools like bill-payment assistance funds, winter gas discounts, flexible payment plans, and referrals to United Way 2-1-1 and energy-saving programs to keep expenses manageable.
