Trooper Shot Multiple Times During Gunfight at Gas Station (officer.com) — A state trooper was shot multiple times early Friday at a Michigan City gas station along U.S. 421 but is now in stable condition after surgery. The incident, which ended with the suspect found dead near Westville, comes just weeks after a deputy was wounded inside Franciscan Health Michigan City, heightening concern about officer safety in LaPorte County. 
• A New Era of Corrections in Indiana: An Update on the People-Centered $1.2 Billion Westville State Prison Project (correctionalnews.com) — Indiana’s new $1.2 billion Westville State Prison, set to open in 2027, will add 4,200 beds and expanded mental health and addiction services. Initial plans to close Indiana State Prison in Michigan City have changed, and the aging facility will stay open for now because of a rising prison population and capacity needs.
