Land Line Telephones Will Become a Thing of the Past at Iowa State University Campus

What this means should you try to call any campus number in the near future.

Land line telephones will soon be a thing of the past on the Iowa State University campus,  according to Radio Iowa.

What does this mean exactly?

The university is putting its telephone network online, Radio Iowa reported, meaning the calls will be routed over the internet rather than over a traditional telephone line. Calls will still go through, but the quality of them could be considerably better.

It will also save the university money, the article said.

The university is making the switch to save the college $600,000 per year, Radio Iowa reported. All calls will go through an Internet "cloud", which means calls will be based and processed in Houston or New York.

Iowa State is paying about $1.5 million dollars to replace all the old phones on campus with the new phones, according to Radio Iowa. The eight-week-long conversation should be done by July 1.
