📰 News we're reading
• Electric rate increase, recycling opt-out changes on Ames council agenda (iowastatedaily.com) — Ames residents could soon see a 2.5% electric rate hike and major borrowing for a new municipal energy center, as the City Council meets Tuesday to debate both. The agenda also covers recycling opt-out rules, proactive Campustown code enforcement, a new animal services facility, and development plans for Ontario Park and nearby areas, with public comment invited.
• Iowa State women's hockey sweeps Cy-Hawk series (iowastatedaily.com) — Iowa State's women's hockey club opened its season in Ames by sweeping rival Iowa in a thrilling Cy-Hawk series, with an overtime win Friday and a shutout Saturday. Strong goaltending and veteran scoring powered the Cyclones, who now head on the road to Augustana aiming to build on this early momentum.
• Inside Iowa State's Flock camera network: privacy, alerts and audits (iowastatedaily.com) — If you drive around Ames or the Iowa State campus, your license plate might be scanned by Flock cameras operated by ISU Police and Story County, though Ames PD has opted out for now. Campus officials say the system helps flag stolen vehicles and wanted suspects, while county supervisors weigh renewal amid concerns over data access and privacy protections.
