• New study finds elevated nitrate levels in Eastern Iowa tap water (cbs2iowa.com) — Cedar Falls tap water showed nitrate levels that stay under federal limits but sometimes reach ranges newer research links to long‑term health risks. A UNI‑led study comparing Cedar Falls with Waterloo, Waverly, Hudson and Cedar Rapids urges more detailed well‑by‑well reporting and calls on local leaders to treat nitrate contamination as urgently as flooding or fire. 
• Waterloo Man Sentenced for Making Machineguns (crweworld.com) — A Waterloo man has been sentenced to just over a year in federal prison for converting firearms into machineguns, a case that drew in multiple agencies including the Cedar Falls Police Department. Investigators found three converted weapons and a machinegun conversion device in his home, and he'll also serve supervised release and pay a fine after his sentence.
