• Council Bluffs moves closer to solving 'Triangle of Death' railroad safety concerns (3newsnow.com) — Council Bluffs officials are working with Union Pacific and the Iowa DOT on both immediate and long-term fixes for dangerous, frequently blocked rail crossings in the south-side "Triangle of Death" neighborhood. Recent operational changes are already reducing peak-time blockages, while the city prepares to seek new state and federal funding for a possible viaduct or other major safety improvements.

• The Iowa DOT is recruiting hundreds of snowplow drivers (radioiowa.com) — Council Bluffs residents looking for winter work can apply at an Iowa DOT snowplow-operator hiring event scheduled in the city on September 28, with pay starting above $22 an hour. The agency is filling hundreds of seasonal positions statewide, offering training for CDL holders who want to help keep roads safe during storms.

• Bulldogs improve round-over-round at Siouxland Invite (cunesower.com) — Council Bluffs will host the Bent Tree Intercollegiate golf tournament on Sept. 21, bringing the Concordia Bulldogs back to Iowa after a solid showing at the Siouxland Invite. The team's A and B squads both finished mid-pack but showed strong round-to-round improvement, highlighted by senior Jude Elgert's impressive closing 68.
