Council hears MPACT update as funding cutoff looms (timesrepublican.com) — Marshalltown's MPACT co-responder program, which pairs social workers with police and now the sheriff's office, faces a major funding cutoff at the end of 2026 unless new support is found. City and county leaders heard that the program is reducing repeat calls, helping residents with homelessness and mental health, and may need about $250,000 annually to continue.
   

2. Curtains up (timesrepublican.com) — Marshalltown residents will soon see the Martha-Ellen Tye Playhouse reopen, with a special Oct. 30 performance reviving its very first production. After six years of derecho repairs and major accessibility upgrades, the restored venue will again host community theater, recitals, and cultural events, with free tickets available locally on a first-come basis.
   

3. Ornamental grasses topic at Garden Club (timesrepublican.com) — Marshalltown gardeners can learn how to use ornamental grasses in home landscapes at a free Garden Club program on Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. Iowa State University horticulture specialist Aaron Steil will speak at the ISU Extension office on South Second Street, sharing practical tips for low-maintenance, colorful grasses suited to Iowa yards.
   

4. Attempted murder charges dropped for one, another set for trial in Marshalltown shooting (who13.com) — Marshalltown residents are learning that attempted murder charges were dropped for one suspect while another still faces trial after a September 5 drive-by-style shooting on North 14th Avenue. No one was injured, but detailed felony charges remain against 20-year-old Tyrell Rudolph, with jury trials for both men now scheduled in October and November.
   

5. Marshalltown man arrested, charged for death of infant (desmoinesregister.com subscription) — Marshalltown readers should know that a 19-year-old local man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death after his infant died following being left alone, according to police and court filings. He also faces a domestic assault charge involving his pregnant girlfriend and is currently held in the Marshall County Jail without bond.
