First look at new American Royal campus in Kansas City, Kansas (fox4kc.com) — Construction on the massive new American Royal and Exhibition Hall in Kansas City is nearly finished, with the first events just weeks away. The 390,000-square-foot complex will host livestock shows, barbecue contests, rodeos, concerts, trade shows and more, dramatically increasing event days and visitors. Leaders hope it cements Kansas City as a national hub for agriculture and food-focused events.

Divided Kansas City, Kansas, school board makes key property tax decision (thebeaconnews.org) — Kansas City Public Schools board narrowly voted 4–3 to collect more property tax revenue this year instead of fully offsetting rising property values. Leaders cite rising costs, uncertain state and federal funding, and program needs, while opponents worry about residents already struggling with higher expenses. The final budget, including a slightly lower mill rate, faces approval September 8.

Street renamed in honor of Kansas City, Kansas, police officer killed in the line of duty one year ago (kshb.com) — Campus Boulevard at Kansas City Kansas Community College has been renamed Officer Hunter Simoncic Boulevard, honoring the KCK police officer killed in the line of duty one year ago. Family, local leaders, and community members gathered for a dedication ceremony, where his family also donated to the Lead to Read program Hunter supported, highlighting his legacy of service to Kansas City children.

Kansas City, Kansas, church rallies around community while assessing its own storm damage (kmbc.com) — Rosewell Church of Christ in Kansas City is feeding and supporting neighbors hit hard by last week's storms even as it faces severe damage to its own building. With the roof and walls torn up, members are leaning on faith and each other while they assess whether the church can be rebuilt and how to keep serving the community.
