1. New Wichita Kansas Temple opens its doors to the public for a short time (kmuw.org) — Wichita residents can tour the new Wichita Kansas Temple in northwest Wichita starting Thursday, before it's dedicated and closed to non-members on Nov. 1. Free public tours run through Oct. 10, showcasing Kansas-inspired architecture, stained glass sunflowers, and sacred spaces that local Latter-day Saints say will offer a peaceful new spiritual home close to where they live.
   

2. Another Wichita restaurant has been seized by the state for nonpayment of taxes (kansas.com) — A longtime Japanese hibachi spot in west Wichita, Old Tokyo Steakhouse on Taft, has been seized and closed by the Kansas Department of Revenue over unpaid taxes. The owner hasn't commented beyond a Facebook note citing "unforeseen circumstances," and state officials say the case is ongoing, leaving regulars waiting to see whether the restaurant can reopen.
   

3. East High students collect shoes to fund SkillsUSA competitions (kwch.com) — Students at Wichita East High School are asking neighbors to donate gently used or new shoes to fund their SkillsUSA trips while helping families in developing countries. Partnering with Funds2Orgs, the school will earn money based on the shoes' total weight, with donations accepted at East through the end of November.
   

4. With his House of Songs, Troy Campbell is building bridges between Austin and Wichita (kmuw.org) — Musicians from Wichita are teaming up with Austin artists through Troy Campbell's House of Songs project, writing new material together and performing this week at Oddfellow Hall and the Somewhere Festival. The collaboration aims to make Wichita a creative hub where visiting performers can connect with local talent, build lasting relationships, and grow the city's music scene beyond a single weekend of shows.
   

5. 'A hero remembered, never dies': Sedgwick County honors its first fallen deputy (ksn.com) — Sedgwick County authorities in the Wichita area are honoring Deputy Carlos King, the sheriff's office's first deputy killed in the line of duty back in 1871. A recent tribute highlights his sacrifice in what is now Harvey County and underscores the long history of local law enforcement service to the region.
