Kansas farmers look to a new perennial grain amid drought struggles (kwch.com) — Farmers across Kansas, including those around Wichita, are exploring Kernza, a drought-resistant perennial grain, as a way to stabilize harvests in increasingly dry years. Developed by the Land Institute in Salina, Kernza is already appearing in grocery products and will be featured at the Annual Prairie Festival later this month for anyone wanting to learn more.

'Mock the Flock' group protests surveillance cameras in Wichita (kwch.com) — Protesters in northeast Wichita gathered along Rock Road to oppose the city's use of Flock license plate reader cameras, arguing they threaten privacy and expand a "surveillance state." The new group, Mock the Flock, says reported abuses locally and nationwide show the technology's risks and is planning another demonstration on Kansas Constitution Day, Sept. 17.
