This Week in Sedgwick County - September 22, 2021
Board of County Commissioners
- A proclamation was adopted declaring Sept. 19-25, 2021 as Forensic Science Week. Director Shelly Steadman accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center.
- A proclamation was adopted declaring Oct. 3-9, 2021 as Fire Prevention Week. Fire Marshal Daniel Wegner accepted the proclamation on behalf of Fire District 1.
- A resolution was approved appointing Almaann Jones to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Civil Service Board, recommended by Commissioner Lopez.
- Commissioners approved a memorial donation of $515 for Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
- Commissioners selected Commissioner Lopez as the voting delegate for the Kansas Association of Counties 2021 Annual Conference. Commissioner Cruse was selected as the alternate.
- Chief Financial Officer Lindsay Poe Rousseau presented a process for County departments to request use of 2021 ARPA Contingency Funds. With the COVID-19 demands increasing, there is a need to make an urgent request process to assist with funds through 2021. It is anticipated for the process to take a week to complete from submission to approval. Commissioners approved the process as presented.
- Commissioners approved the recommendation from the Board of Bids and Contracts Special Meeting on Sept. 20, 2021.
- In an off item agenda COMCARE Executive Director Joan Tammany presented a grant program partnership agreement held with Wichita USD 259 to continue mental health intervention services. The goal of the program is to improve the social-emotional wellness and outcomes for students by increasing schools’ access to treatment providers. This is the fourth year of this program that is funded by the Kansas Legislature. Commissioners approved the agreement.
- Consent Agenda was approved by the Commissioners, to include the renewal grant award of $2,130,128 from KDHE to provide special supplemental nutrition funding for WIC specifically noted.
- The Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners and Wichita City Council will hold an En Banc meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28 at the City of Wichita City Hall Board Room.

- Goddard Public Schools Alumni Association will host a Welcome Home Weekend Oct.1-2, 2021. For more information about the weekend, visit https://www.goddardef.org.
- The Vietnam Moving Wall will be in Valley Center Oct. 21-25. The Sedgwick County Register of Deeds Office will be onsite issuing cards and filing DD214’s on Saturday, Oct. 23. Volunteer and donation opportunities are available. For more information, visit http://www.themovingwall.org/.
- The Annual Veteran’s Day Parade will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 beginning in front of the Sedgwick County Courthouse promptly at 11 a.m.Â
