Here are the top 3 stories in Baton Rouge today:

  1. A rally calling to end gun violence was held on Sunday afternoon at the Louisiana State Capitol steps. The event was powered by the Baton Rouge Chapter of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and the Outstanding Mature Girlz. The rally, "Don't Wait 'Til I'm A Hashtag" was intended to give a space for community members to safely gather and connect. (BRProud.com)
  2. A cow was caught after it was spotted roaming freely for three hours around LSU's campus. After several people captured the cow strolling through the streets on social media, police worked with the owners to corral her and get her returned safely. Officials say the cow escaped from a 4-H livestock show at Parker Coliseum. (WBRZ)
  3. Baton Rouge's Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center will host night-time tours on Feb. 11. At BREC's Swamp Flashlight Night, guests will be able to have encounters with animals and walk through the swamp trails in the dark. A second Flashlight Night will be held on May 13 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (BRProud.com)

From my notebook:

  • Yesterday morning, detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested by the Lafayette Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting. One subject was in stable condition at a local hospital, and no officers were injured. The Lafayette Parish Metro Crime Scene Unit is processing the scene for evidence. (Facebook)
  • Calling all laundry angels: Friends of the Animals Baton Rouge could really use your help. They have about nine bags of laundry that can be picked up on the back patio beside the stairs coming from the back porch. They're offering two service hours per bag. (Facebook)
  • The Louisiana Art & Science Museum had the pleasure of welcoming seventy senior adults and staff members from the Tangipahoa Council on Aging for a fun, educational field trip recently! With funding provided by the IMLS Healthy Aging with LASM grant, this delightful group enjoyed tours of the Iridescence exhibition and the Ancient Egypt and Solar System galleries as well as a showing of America's Musical Journey in the planetarium.
